How to Choose a Topic for Your PHD Dissertation

One of the most responsible steps, which should be taken by a student while writing a PHD dissertation (thesis), is picking out a topic. There are several ways, which may be chosen. You should know about them, and that is why this article I devote to this theme: picking out a topic for your PHD dissertation (thesis).

Very often you cannot choose a topic, and you should write on such topic, which has been chosen for you by the committee. It is not very pleasant, of course, as you cannot use your imagination and you are to write about what you do know for sure. But, it is your assignment and you should make a PHD dissertation (thesis) according to the established rules and present it in the settled time.

The other case, when you may choose a topic, sounds more attractive. This time you may talk to your tutor, and decide which topic will be yours. So, how should you choose a topic for your PHD dissertation (thesis)? Well, you should take into consideration several factors, here are some of them:

  • It should be interesting to you;
  • It should be not too long and laconic;
  • It should be informative and understandable for readers;
  • It should be new (when you describe the problem, which has been discussed before you many time, it seems boring);
  • It should be logically structured.

As you can see, your topic should be simple, but smart! Can you do it? Think about subjects, which you like the most. Think about the topic, which you want to investigate and discuss it with your tutor. I think, you may do it!
